Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

Our offices are based in the Black Country, near Birmingham, which is the industrial engine of the United Kingdom.  Just over half of local businesses that are engaged in high value manufacturing are in foreign ownership and many enjoy a long standing relationship with George Green.

A Top Tier Firm without Top Tier Prices

Many foreign businesses have little or no knowledge of local law firms and there is a temptation to rely upon the brand reputation of large national practices or City firms.  These firms have high charge out rates and the specialism of individual lawyers makes it difficult for a strong relationship to develop between individual lawyers and their overseas clients.

We are proud to have been described by the Legal 500 as a “top tier firm without top tier prices.”  Our lawyers frequently develop the relationship of a key strategic adviser to overseas clients, not only advising in relation to local businesses but also in supporting clients in other jurisdictions, working with lawyers in those countries and in-house counsel.

A Strong International and Local Network

We have extensive contacts in the local professional and business community.  We can work with businesses and potential investors to identify suitable acquisition targets and also introduce other advisers, including property consultants, accountants and lenders.

We also have an extensive international network and work closely with lawyers and other professionals throughout the world, including the Ars Legis network.

We have a particularly strong reputation in advice to Nordic and Scandinavian clients investing in the United Kingdom.

From Transactions to Training

We are best known for our transactional work.  We have acted for many overseas businesses on their acquisitions in the United Kingdom.  We have a proud record of attracting subsequent instruction from counterparties where we have impressed them when acting on the opposite side of a transaction, attracting a number of significant overseas clients in this way.

George Green also deliver training programmes to clients who may not be familiar with law and practice in the United Kingdom.  Recent examples include directors’ duties, employment practice and procedures, anti-bribery and corruption and competition law.
