Overview of Matthew’s practice

Matthew trained at George Green LLP and qualified as a solicitor in the corporate team in January 2023. After spending most of his first year as a qualified solicitor working for George Green, Matthew then worked for a firm in Birmingham for approximately 18 months before returning to George Green in July 2025.

Matthew has extensive experience in a wide range of corporate work including:

  • Acquisitions and sales of businesses;
  • Management buyouts (MBOs);
  • Company reorganisations;
  • Share buybacks;
  • Shareholder matters including drafting shareholder agreements and Articles of Association.

Matthew has advised individuals, SMEs, larger organisations, PLCs and businesses based in Europe across industries as diverse as agriculture, fashion, healthcare, veterinary, education, insurance, manufacturing, engineering, hospitality and retail.

Recent experience

Matthew has advised on numerous business acquisitions and sales, many of which have been multi-million-pound transactions. Some of those transactions have also involved buyers funded by private equity. In addition to M&A work, Matthew has also advised on multi-million-pound re-organisations and share buybacks, as well as smaller scale transactions with consideration up to £1 million.

And for something else…

Matthew is a keen golfer, playing off a single-figure handicap. Matthew has also dabbled in comedy, having performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019.
