Matthew Harcourt-Poole
Overview of Matt’s practice
Matt spent the first 10 years of his career working for a large high-end retail organisation, eventually progressing into a senior leadership role. After deciding that a change in direction was necessary, he obtained a 1st class LLB law degree from the University of Wolverhampton before going on to complete his LPC with the same institution, achieving a distinction.
He qualified as a solicitor in July 2022, with an expertise in family law. He also has significant pre-qualification experience handling a varied caseload of family matters. Matt joined the team at George Green in July 2025, having spent 18 months working for a regional firm in the East Midlands. He has also worked in a Legal 500 rated family team in the West Midlands, and other prominent high street practices in Staffordshire and Shropshire.
Matt undertakes work in all areas of family law, with a particular passion for cases involving the arrangements for, and wellbeing of, children. Matt understands that visiting a family lawyer is one of the last things his clients could have imagined themselves doing. With this in mind, he always puts his clients first and strives to be approachable and empathetic, whilst providing clear, honest and realistic advice.
Matt is a member of Resolution and strives to work collaboratively to resolve matters without the need for litigation wherever possible. In those matters where litigation becomes inevitably necessary, he adopts a pragmatic but robust approach to best represent his clients’ interests.
Recent Experience
- Acted for a senior medical professional in financial remedy proceedings arising from their divorce, with an international element.
- Secured a favourable financial settlement for his client, who had achieved no success for 4 years previously, with different representation.
- Helped his client to secure an urgent change of residence for their children, from Wales to England, in a case in which there was significant involvement from the Local Authority and elements of domestic violence.
And for something else…
Away from work Matt is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with his friends and family. He particularly enjoys escaping to the beach with his wife and their Labradoodle, whenever time allows.
What others say about Matt
“The service I received from Matt was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge and understanding on all matters was exceptional even in my not so straightforward case. Upon any time of making contact, he was able to delve straight into the details of the case and answer my questions immediately. At every stage, I felt as if he was 100% on the ball with the case. A genuinely exceptional service”.
