George Green LLP has appointed the Baby Bereavement Campaign as the firm’s charity of the year for 2023 in support of our colleague Mell and her family following the devastating loss of her baby George last summer.

On 24th June 2022, George and his twin brother Harry were born at Russells Hall Hospital to Mell and Chris; they were happy and healthy boys and everyone instantly fell in love with the beautiful new twins.

Sadly, at just 4 days old, Mell and Chris were given the devastating news that George had only one kidney and that it was failing. After experiencing unimaginable despair and devastation, Mell and Chris made the brave, heartbreaking decision to cease treatment for George so that the boys could spend time together and so that the family could create precious memories.

Baby Bereavement Charity Campaign were crucial in providing care to Mell, Chris, George and Harry, particularly in helping to make arrangements for George's funeral and providing calm guidance at a time which no parent should experience.

More about the charity:

“Our campaign began four years ago in 2018 to fund a much-needed bereavement suite within our maternity unit, enabling families to spend precious time with their baby, in a soundproofed, private, and homely space away from the standard day to day of the maternity unit. In October 2019 following a number of significant donations and support from local families, businesses, and staff members this became a reality and our beautiful home from home suite was completed and ready for use. 

Sadly, since it’s completion the bereavement suite has been used on hundreds of occasions and has provided many local families with the space and calming environment we desperately wanted to achieve. 

We are now in a position of finding ourselves fundraising for a second ‘multipurpose’ suite within the unit. We would also like to improve facilities for families undergoing early pregnancy loss, upgrade our counselling room for families having difficult conversations and overall look at how we can improve the pregnancy and baby bereavement services within Dudley.  

We are extremely grateful for all of your support and contributions in a bid to make the surroundings for bereaved families within Dudley more comfortable and less distressing at a heart-breaking time.”  

Yesterday, staff at George Green had the pleasure of meeting Karen Phillips, the charity’s fundraising Manager who talked us through all the exciting ways that we can get involved in the charity's own fundraising events throughout the year and gave us some great ideas for events we can do in house.
