Louise Axford

Private Client Partner

Overview of Louise’s practice

Louise has been with the firm since commencing her Training Contract in 2014 and has built a loyal client base and network of professional contacts.

Louise deals with a variety of private client matters including wills, estate administration, lasting powers of attorney and Court of Protection applications.

Louise specialises in estate planning and works closely with the firm’s corporate and family teams to ensure family businesses can be passed on in a tax-efficient way whilst ensuring assets are protected for future generations. This regularly involves the use of trusts and Louise acts as a professional trustee for many clients.

Louise is a full member of STEP having won a STEP excellence award for her performance in the Taxation of Trusts and Estates exam in 2019. Louise is also a member of the Law Society Private Client section.

Louise is recognised in the Chambers & Partners High Net Worth Guide as ‘Up and Coming’ in Private Wealth Law, and the Private Client team are one of only two firms ranked in Band 1 in Wolverhampton and the Black Country.

Recent experience

  • Working alongside the Corporate team in a share re-organisation for a longstanding manufacturing client (with turnover of c£200m) to include the creation of a trust and loan agreement to help with a residential property purchase.
  • Acting for over 100 different clients and their families in resolving issues as a result of the law firm McClures Solicitors going into administration. This included dealing with changes of trustee, bringing trusts to an end and dealing with inheritance tax charges.
  • Acting as a Professional Deputy for a wealthy client who had lost mental capacity. This included dealing with his property portfolio and significant cash savings.
  • Dealing with estates where significant inheritance tax is payable.

And for something else ………….

Working full time means most of Louise’s spare time is spent with her young daughter, so weekends are spent at soft play or National Trust sites. She lived in Warwick so is lucky to have three sites very close by. Louise goes to spin when she has the energy(!) and loves spending the summer months outside in the garden. Her family live in Scotland so much of her annual leave is spent travelling up and exploring the Scottish countryside. She also loves a holiday in the sun which isn’t as relaxing as it once was with a small person around!
