Wills and Marriage

With the upcoming Royal Wedding between Harry and Meghan in the news, it is timely to consider the impact of getting married on Wills.

One of the ways in which a Will is revoked is by marriage, so anyone who has married since making their Will should make a new Will as soon as possible.

For those thinking about getting married, it is possible to make a Will in expectation of marrying a specific person. Such a Will is not revoked when that marriage takes place.

Finally, if you are married and don’t have Wills, your assets may not pass as you would expect on the deaths of either or both spouses, so we would recommend everyone to seriously consider making Wills now.
