Theresa May, Home Secretary, has today confirmed radical, new proposals to criminalise new offences of “domestic abuse”.
Men who demonstrate a pattern of psychological harm, demonstrate “controlling behaviour” or, for example, restrict access to money, friends or family could face a custodial sentence.
Whilst details have yet to be confirmed, these new offences would strengthen protection for people in relationships and could also cover ex-partners.
A consultation period now runs for a period of eight weeks.
