Fears of Domestic Violence spiking during coronavirus lockdown

In the words of Home Secretary Priti Patel, isolation and lockdown is a hard time for everyone, however for some people it is even harder, because home is not the safe haven it should be.

The government have confirmed that, whilst the advice across the country is to stay at home, anyone who is at risk of, or experiencing, domestic abuse is still able to leave home and seek refuge.

Refuge shelters remain open and the police are still available to provide support to all individuals who are being abused.

If you or your child are at immediate risk of harm, you should call 999. You can also access charitable support through the Freephone National Domestic Abuse Helpline – 0808 200 0247.

The Family Law Courts are continuing to operate for urgent matters and can grant injunctions to offer you protection from domestic abuse. Obtaining a non-molestation order and/or occupation order from the Court may be able to offer protection to you and your children.

Our lawyers are able to offer discrete appointments by telephone if you are at risk and need assistance.
