Can I get divorced during the Coronavirus pandemic?

The current lockdown restrictions are hard for everyone, but for those contemplating separation or divorce, this is likely to be an incredibly difficult situation. Many of those may have been on the verge of issuing divorce proceedings and are now unsure as to how, or whether it is even possible, to proceed.

Whilst the Court may not be operating quite as normal, they are still accepting and issuing new divorce petitions. This can be done through the online portal or by sending the petition directly to the Court. The Court are mindful of the restrictions and are therefore putting systems in place to work around these. For example, by being able to send documents by email.

At George Green our Family Solicitors have adapted their normal working procedures to allow clients to be able to continue with their matter or to assist new clients. Whilst face to face meetings may not be possible at this time, our family solicitors are able to arrange telephone or video appointments. They have procedures in place to fully support clients and maintain a high level of service in order to issue or continue with divorce proceedings in a timely manner.
