Builder jailed after Trading Standards investigation

Jordan Louis Hare from Cardiff was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court after works to modify the home of a customer who had mobility issues were found to be incomplete, “potentially unsafe” and not of the standard expected of a “competent DIY person”.

Trading Standards conducted an investigation after the work was left incomplete and the home owner had paid Mr Hare over £31,000. An independent Chartered Surveyor estimated that it would cost approximately £21,603 to correct the work.

Mr Hare pleaded guilty to fraud after it was discovered that he had no connections with Platinum Installs Limited despite telling the home owner that he was part of this company.

Councillor Eluned Stenner, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Public Protection said: “This sentence is a fantastic result for the victim who has suffered greatly at the hands of this fraudster. The team have once again taken swift action to protect the interests of our residents and I must commend them for another successful case.”
