Am I entitled to any benefits if I separate from my spouse?

Divorcing or separating couples can often have a number of concerns regarding their finances and how they will manage to meet their own outgoings once they separate and no longer have financial support from their former partner.

One party in particular may need extra support financially on separation and there are a range of benefits that they may be entitled to. For example, they may consider Universal Credit, Council Tax reductions (for single occupancy), or Child Benefit.

There are a number of online resources that allow a person to input their financial information and living arrangements for their benefit entitlement to be calculated.

Our Family Solicitors are also able to advise in respect of possible claims for Spousal Maintenance that may be able to assist a more financially vulnerable spouse upon separation.
