Can I vaccinate my child without the other parent's consent?

No, you cannot vaccinate your child without permission from all persons who hold parental responsibility providing their consent.

This is because the decision whether or not to vaccinate a child is a medical decision, which should always be made jointly between parents wherever possible.

You should try to seek the agreement of the other party. If that is not forthcoming, you can try to reach an agreement within the forum of family mediation or solicitor correspondence.

The last case is to issue an application to the family court for a specific issue order, asking the court to make a specific decision about whether the child should be vaccinated or not. You should lodge the relevant evidence with your application regarding what attempts have been made try and resolve the dispute historically.

Whilst at court, you may also request the court to consider child arrangements generally.  You should consider taking expert family advice before making any applications to the court to ascertain your likely prospects of success when issuing your application and to fully understand the process.
