Takeaway fined after cat found inside the premises

Mint Limited, in Telford, has been fined £2,800 after the takeaway was convicted of food hygiene breaches.

The takeaway was visited in February 2018 by Inspectors from Telford & Wrekin Council, after being given a Food Hygiene Rating of one in May 2016.

The hygiene failures by the takeaway included: failure to ensure the food premises was clean and well maintained; failure to ensure articles, fittings and equipment were clean and disinfected; and failure to provide facilities for staff to wash and dry hands.

In addition, the takeaway allowed a domestic animal to access the premises. Inspectors witnessed a cat defecating in a litter tray that was found in a corridor off the food preparation areas.

The takeaway was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court, and has now ceased trading.
