Restaurant owner banned after string of failed hygiene inspections

In April 2017, Salvatore Trecarichi was fined £750 after health inspectors found dead flies in pans of bolognese left out and uncovered overnight. They also found bird droppings in an extractor fan and out of date lasagne.

In the subsequent months, Mr Trecarichi’s restaurant underwent refurbishment and reopened as 59 Lord Street. The restaurant was again given 0 stars for hygiene in October 2018.

Health inspectors found that areas used for food preparation were coated in dirt, grease and old food debris. They found used cigarette ends on the kitchen floor and the tap of the hand washbasin was coated in grime. The inspectors also found mould on the ceiling, an oven layered in black grease and an overflowing bin omitting a "foul" smell.

On 4 April, South Sefton Magistrates’ Court issued a hygiene emergency prohibition order and also fined Mr Trecarichi £1,449.
