Owner of WOW bar fined over noise complaints

Victoria Roffi, owner of WOW Bar, has been found guilty of two breaches of a noise abatement notice which had been served on the bar.

Cardiff Council had received numerous complaints dating back to July 2018, about loud amplified music and singing late at night and into the early hours of the morning.

Environmental Health Officers visited WOW bar a number of times in an attempt to resolve the problem, but the complaints continued.

Ms Roffi failed to attend Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, and in her absence, was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay costs of £850 and a victim surcharge of £100.

Councillor Michael Michael said: "The council has a statutory duty to investigate noise complaints and we ask all licensed premises to work with the council when complaints are received. In many cases we agree with the venue on the level of amplified music which is acceptable late at night and, in some cases, we have actually insisted that the venue fits a noise limiter to the PA system. In this case if we continue to receive complaints then we will have to investigate them further. We will take further legal action if it is required."
