Non violent Domestic Abuse New Law

Theresa May, Home Secretary, has today confirmed radical, new proposals to criminalise new offences of “domestic abuse”.

Men who demonstrate a pattern of psychological harm, demonstrate “controlling behaviour” or, for example, restrict access to money, friends or family could face a custodial sentence.

Whilst details have yet to be confirmed, these new offences would strengthen protection for people in relationships and could also cover ex-partners.

A consultation period now runs for a period of eight weeks.
