My income has dropped now that I have separated

If your income has reduced following your separation from your partner, and your partner still enjoys a high income disproportionate to their needs, you can apply to the court for a ‘Maintenance Pending Suit’ application.

The court has the power to order your spouse to pay you a maintenance amount each month to support you during the divorce proceedings.

You can also boost your income by applying for welfare support from the state, including universal credit, child benefit, working tax credit, child tax credit, amongst others.

These can support you throughout the financial remedies procedures until a final order by the court is made.
