Divorce Day 2019

Monday 7th January 2019 is being dubbed ‘divorce day’ due to the reported spike in the number of couples considering ending their marriages after the festive periods.

It is suggested that married couples experiencing troubles may wait until after the Christmas period to make their final decision to separate. It may also be increased or intensified family time or the financial pressure that Christmas can bring that places great strains on relationships.

Whilst the procedural steps of getting a divorce in England and Wales are relatively straightforward separation is often likely to raise a number of other practical issues such as financial settlements and the arrangements for children which can often complicate matters.
