Black Country Trader Prosecuted

A car salesman from Wednesbury was recently given a suspended prison sentence after admitting to the sale of dangerous and unsafe cars.

Arslaan Asif, of Wednesbury Sales, in Holyhead Road, was charged with eight offences involving the sale of cars. These included charges in respect of false descriptions applied to vehicles and the roadworthiness of certain vehicles that he had sold. A ninth charge related to the failure to declare the name of the company on any invoices in accordance with the Companies Act 2006.

Mr Asif pleaded guilty to all charges and was given an eight-week prison sentence which was suspended for 18 months.

District Judge Wilkinson noted that Mr Asif had been putting people’s lives at risk by selling dangerous cars. One of the vehicles was described as a death trap.

Local authority trading standards departments will take action when faced with breaches of consumer protection legislation. The above was a case which clearly merited enforcement. However, not all cases investigated or prosecuted are the same. If you, or your business is investigated for an alleged breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, you should contact our Regulatory and Licensing Partner, James Lowe, on 07833 240400 who will be able to assist you.
