HSE fines Brierley Hill Manufacturing Company following Health and Safety Breach

An employee of A J Metal Products Ltd, a Brierley Hill based manufacturing company was injured after his glove was caught in the rollers of an industrial machine, leading to the amputation of one of his fingers.

The Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) investigation found that the company had failed to put steps in place to prevent employees accessing the rollers. The HSE further found that the company had not deployed effective control measures to prevent access to dangerous moving parts whilst there was power to the machinery.

A J Metal Products Ltd pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and was fined £23,470 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £1,750 to the HSE.
