A bill recently passed has extended the law in relation to civil partnerships.

It will soon be the case that opposite sex couples will be able to enter into civil partnerships, meaning they will obtain financial benefits without being married.

This change has come about after an opposite sex couple won a Supreme Court case last year. It was held that restricting opposite sex couples from entering civil partnerships was a breach of human rights.
