How Long Does It Take To Get A Divorce?

Divorce and Separation FAQs

Our specialist Family Solicitors have been considering the questions that are most frequently asked by clients.

 One of the most common questions is how long will a divorce take? How long will it be until their divorce is complete?

The truth is divorce is not a 'one size fits all' process. The length of time that a divorce can take will depend on a variety of factors such as;

1) Whether both parties agree to the divorce and the grounds;

2) How quickly the other party complete and return their paperwork; and

3) Whether the divorce procedure needs to be paused until the parties have reached a financial agreement.

A divorce could take as little as approximately 4 months to be completed. In general it is often advised that a divorce is likely to take between 9 and 12 months. However, as discussed, this will depend on a married couple's individual circumstances and their specific needs. George Green's Family Solicitors carefully consider each client's case to provide them with an informed and realistic timescale as well as providing advice as to how to avoid unnecessary and preventable delays.
